Sydney, Australia – February 20, 2024 — Pure Storage® (NYSE: PSTG), the IT pioneer that delivers the world’s most advanced data storage technology and services, today announced that it has helped 5G Networks (5GN), Australia’s leading managed service provider, to successfully complete a massive data centre consolidation that sets the company on the path to delivering bigger and better services while also helping it to meet environmental sustainability targets by dramatically reducing energy consumption and space requirements.
Customer Challenge:
After a strategic review of its data centre operations, 5GN, which serves corporate and government clients across Australia with telecommunications services, co-location, data centre, infrastructure provision and Managed IT services concluded that it needed to consolidate two leased data centres – with a combined volume of over 1.5 petabytes of data – into a single, built-for-purpose data centre facility in Sydney.
Customer Impact:
To overcome these challenges, Pure Storage worked closely with 5GN with the FlashArray//X™ forming the core of 5GN’s new data platform. The benefits to 5GN include:
- Completion of the data centre consolidation in less than three months: This was half the forecast time and sets a new industry standard in Australia for data migration.
- Minimal disruption to customers: With thousands of live services and applications running at any one time, 5GN could ill-afford any disruption to operations.
- Environmental considerations: One important criteria that 5GN insisted on was to help the company reduce its energy and space usage. Pure Storage’s all-flash storage solutions featuring patented DirectFlash Modules did that and more, helping 5GN reduce rack space by 65% with commensurable reduction in energy and cooling costs.
- Enabling more strategic use of IT manpower: Pure Storage’s powerful management software, Pure1®, with AI-powered predictive capabilities, has meant 5GN’s IT team are freed up to focus on more strategic roles such as building new services.
