Amsterdam, 24 June 2019 — Pure Storage (NYSE: PSTG), the data solutions leader that helps innovators build a better world with data, has announced that Reynaers, a Belgian company and one of the world’s leading manufacturers of aluminium for home construction, has adopted its all-flash storage which has enabled it to tackle high costs and resources committed to maintenance, as well as increase storage capacity.
Reynaers’ previous system proved to be too complex to manage and required an extensive amount of external consultancy. On top of this, its maintenance costs were becoming very expensive, and as its maintenance contract expired this year the company was faced with a shortage of storage capacity.
On the recommendation of Pure’s partner Proact, Reynaers adopted FlashArray, the 100 percent all-flash storage solution from Pure. It now supports all of the company's branches across 40 countries, as well as its 2,500 employees. Additionally, Reynaers can now monitor the performance of its systems internally and remotely, rather than relying on external parties. This gives its employees more control, making their jobs easier as well as more efficient. Though data usage is expected to become more intense, currently Reynaers is only using 25 percent of its storage capacity, giving it plenty of scope to grow. In addition, response times are now less than a millisecond, and there are no longer any spikes.
By capitalising on Pure’s unique EvergreenTM model, storage that behaves like SaaS and the cloud, Reynaers has deployed storage once and can upgrade it non-disruptively over time as needed whether for capacity, density, performance or features, without any disruption or downtime. Evergreen also provides an economic benefit to Reynaers, which can now expand or upgrade its infrastructure without losing its existing investment.
The Pure systems that Reynaers adopted reduce every 10 GB of storage space needed to just 2.63 GB by compressing and deduplicating data. "Compared to other manufacturers, Pure allows full capacity usage without any loss in performance,” said Patrick Elsen, ICT Infrastructure Manager at Reynaers. “Normally you have to choose between fast or slower disks, but this isn’t necessary with Pure Storage; it’s all-flash. This means everything works straight away, whereas before we needed consultation to optimise our distribution. We all sleep a bit easier now.”
“We’re delighted to have given the power back to Reynaers Aluminium,” said Theo Van Teylingen, Regional Director Benelux and Nordics, Pure Storage. “Giving them the ability to monitor and manage storage internally relieves a big headache for staff, and our Evergreen model is providing economic benefits to the business too,” he concluded.
