Seoul – August 23, 2021 — Pure Storage (NYSE: PSTG), the IT pioneer that delivers storage as-a-service in a multi-cloud world, is supporting Korea’s pandemic response by helping to improve the performance of the COVID-19 vaccine reservation system operated by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
With the advance registration of vaccinations for people between the ages of 18 and 49 beginning from August 9, the KDCA needed an infrastructure solution that was able to seamlessly handle transactions generated by hundreds of thousands of users simultaneously.
Pure Storage stepped in with its FlashArray™ and the KDCA immediately saw improvements in the performance of the system. In particular, the KDCA effectively addressed the bottlenecks from log databases which record users’ reservation requests and in the domain that aggregates the results, all by leveraging Pure’s modern data solution.
In addition, KDCA improved the speed of the reservation service by securing consistent low latencies of less than 0.5 ms (millisecond) in the vaccine reservation system where data input/output occurs continuously, and also dramatically reduced redundant data with Pure Storage’s advanced deduplication and compression technology. By significantly improving the overall performance of the system, KDCA successfully upgraded the vaccine reservation service which has since been operating smoothly.
“The active support from Pure Storage has greatly helped in the storage operation and I am truly satisfied with the results regarding the performance enhancement for the system,” said Kim Seong-hoon, head of the Korea Social Security Information Service (SSIS) who oversaw the improvements to the vaccine reservation system.
